Travel Tips
I have a good bit of immediacy to keep blabbing away about my recent night out, classes I’ve signed up for, and local excursions, I’d like to take a minute to advise you all on traveling. Many people (thank you Lord) have inquiries about traveling to see us lately, and to sum up some of our conversations, I’d like to pass some knowledge along…
The closest airport to our home is airport code SNA. Luckily from ATL the cost is not so different than flying in to LAX. Please know that if the difference in your airfare total is great, we have no problem picking you up at LAX. Depending on the time of day however it could take up to 2 hours to get you to our home.
BEWARE of site such as cheapair.com, travelocity.com, travelzoo.com, etc. You can often get lower rates here, however you risk a couple of problems. One problem being multiple lay-overs. A direct flight in from Delta say, may only be a few dollars cheaper than a flight booked on expedia.com with a stop in St. Louis. That stop could pose problems if your flight from ATL leaves late. In that case, expedia.com will not help you. Another problem that might not be obvious is that there might be a 4 hour lay-over in Akron, OH. In that case, what should be a 4.5 hour flight to SNA or LAX might take 9.5 hours at which point you should determine how valuable your time is to you.
Here’s a good site to go to in helping to make a seat selection: www.seatguru.com May seem strange, 4 and a half hours isn’t that long on a plane, ya think? Trust me, get the most comfy seat you can. One of the last times I flew stand-by I got stuck in the back row next to the toilets, and I don’t know which smelled worse, the toilets, or the 400 lb man sitting in the aisle seat of my row that drooled and snored the entire time. And that was just a 2 and a half hour flight.
All things considered, we’d love to see any and all of you. How much you spend, and how much time you spend to get here matters little in us seeing you at all. Just wanted to provide any helpful tips along the way. I’ll be happy to take a look at flights you are considering or help you make a decision. Hope to see you soon. xoxoxo
Hotels
If you plan a longer visit to CA and want to stay near the beach for a portion of your visit, I suggest Newport Channel Inn. It’s an economy hotel, not a luxury one, but room are clean, large, and it’s a family run establishment so that it isn’t excessively loud. Newport Beach is the closest beach to us and is very nice. The hotel isn’t on the beach, but just across the street from it. They are happy to give you a map and an overview of the area when you check in as well. You are smack dab in the middle of restaurants and the nightlife of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach if you stay at this location.
