Operation Guest Room

Okay- So, the guest room has been a low priority since we moved here.  Not because my guests are a low priority, but because they are infrequent.  Also- neither of us spends a lot of time in there, though we do take turns on occasion when one of us can’t sleep, etc.  Thirdly, when we first moved in we had a small pot of money to get things done, and I assumed that bank would be built up again, but that was wishful thinking.  I also assumed by now, we’d have a new, king master suite and would be able to move the queen bed and dresser into the guest room.  The reality is, this could all take a few more years, so I know that in the meantime I’ve got to do something.  In it’s current state, the guest room is not only boring, I have to admit, that with the TV on the floor and the antenna stacked on a speaker that is stacked on a chair in the corner, it’s down right White trash.  Not to mention the paper blinds we’ve still got hanging up.  Though, that still goes for a lot of the house ’cause window treatments ain’t cheap, people.

Pitiful, huh?  Nothing says welcome and come stay a while like some paper blinds, a full sized futon, a TV you can’t watch and a pointy antenna balancing precariously next to the head of the bed.

So far I have done the following: 1)sewn a cute duvet cover (almost finished) with colors and fabrics I’ve picked out myself in greens and yellows with little splashes of blue and pink 2) bought fabric to make curtains, although I really think I might go out on a limb and attempt to make roman shades (If Jim can help me because I’m scared of screwing them up) 3) called a professional to install out antenna on our roof so that it doesn’t land on a sleeping guest and poke anyone’s eye out 4) started painting a softer, muted tone.

I also plan to rearrange the furniture.  There is some bad Feng Shui in there, I feel it.  And of course, find something to put the TV up on, or hide it in the closet until I do.  Anyway, I made the duvet big enough for a queen bed, so hopefully we might be able to do that sooner than later.

Stay tuned for a big reveal.  Shooting for the end of Jan, beginning of Feb.  Worst case scenario, I’ll have it done by July, which is when Jim’s parents are planning to come visit.
